Depending on the indications, hyaluronic acid injections can be used to reshape the nose without surgery. For example, they can reduce a bump on the nose by restoring volume to the hollow above the bone structure. It is also possible to use these injections to correct irregularities in the bridge, such as bumps or slight asymmetry, or to redefine the tip of the nose. Hyaluronic acid is then used as a filling agent. The effect usually lasts 12 to 18 months. This treatment is called medical rhinoplasty, as opposed to surgical rhinoplasty. Medical rhinoplasty sometimes avoids the need for a cartilage graft. It is also an ideal technique for checking that the result is satisfactory before going under the knife. The injection of hyaluronic acid is reversible naturally or with the application of an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Medical rhinoplasty is painless. As with injections into the mouth, the hyaluronic acid solution used during the procedure contains a local anaesthetic. Some bruising or redness may appear after the session, and the nose (bridge or nostrils) may seem more sensitive for up to 8 days after the treatment. It is essential that these injections are carried out by an experienced doctor, given the specific anatomical features of the nose! In the long term, hyaluronic acid injections in the nose do not cause any complications.

The method of administration of hyaluronic acid always requires a passage of the skin barrier, at a minimum. In aesthetic medicine, it is injected using two possible techniques: needle or cannula. By definition, needles are pointed and rigid while the cannula is flexible and not sharp. Depending on the gesture, the doctor's habits and the targeted area, one of these techniques will be used. The cannula allows a safer and less traumatic gesture, but requires significant dexterity and experience from the operator so that the product is injected precisely. The cannula is most often preferred for safety reasons. At the cheekbones, the cannula allows the practitioner to inject the solution from a single injection point, while the needle would require several entry points. In large areas, the cannula allows for so-called "fan" interventions, thus reducing the risk of hematoma. The needle is a more direct technique, but more traumatic for the vascular-nervous structures of the injected area. On the other hand, it allows precision work on areas less accessible to cannulas, such as to reduce a bump on the nose or reshape the contour of the lips. Only an experienced practitioner with a medical degree is authorized to perform a hyaluronic acid injection safely.
