PRESENTATION OF DERMATOLOGICAL SURGERY (LIPOMA, CYSTS AND TUMORS)

Cosmetic dermatological surgery includes different types of interventions under anesthesia aimed at treating, smoothing and healing the skin with a natural result. Each operation is decided on a case-by-case basis, according to the patient's profile and the diagnosis made by the practitioner.
Sometimes cancerous tumors take the form of pigmented spots such as an abnormal mole or a small raised pink-red bump that persists for several months.
Surgical removal of the tumor can be preventive, before it becomes cancerous. If treatment is delayed, the dermatological surgeon will provide a safety margin around the cancerous lesion in order to avoid any local recurrence. The intervention area will therefore be larger and healing will take longer.
Whatever the chosen procedure, your practitioner will offer you the best option to ensure perfect healing: direct skin closure, skin graft, local flap, directed healing with laser sessions, etc.
The final results are discreet. Your skin will be visibly healthy and well cared for.

PROCEDURE OF DERMATOLOGICAL SURGERY

Any cosmetic surgery procedure is preceded by a consultation with an experienced practitioner. This consultation is an opportunity to establish a complete diagnosis of your skin, to analyze any possible skin lesions and to advise you on the type of treatment or surgical operation in line with your needs.
As part of this dermatological diagnosis, a biopsy may be performed to observe whether the lesion is cancerous (melanoma, carcinoma) or benign (cyst, nevus, lipoma).
To remove a mole, the procedure is very simple and quick, with histological control in the laboratory.
For surgical removal of a skin lesion, the procedure is as follows: After rigorous disinfection and local anesthesia, the cosmetic dermatologist removes the skin lesion using a specialized laser or directly with a scalpel. In Mohs surgery, thin layers of skin are removed until healthy tissue is reached. The removed lesion is then sent to a histopathology laboratory for further analysis. At the end of the procedure, the contours of the wound are brought together with sutures, the placement of a skin flap or a skin graft, depending on the extent of the removal. A complementary care protocol may then be offered to you in order to accelerate healing.
FOLLOW-UP AFTER INTERVENTION

FOLLOW-UP AFTER INTERVENTION

The postoperative course is relatively simple, considering the procedure. Some patients can even return to work the same day. For 48 hours after the operation, the application of ice is recommended in order to reduce swelling (or edema) of the operated area. In addition, the wound must be carefully disinfected with a local antiseptic.
You will then need to avoid any exposure of the scars to the sun for 1 year, until the skin has completely regenerated. The application of a total sunscreen, or even a dressing, will therefore be strongly recommended.

CONTRAINDICATIONS OF DERMATOLOGICAL SURGERY:

Contraindications to surgical removal of a skin imperfection or skin lesion include:
  • Current anticoagulant or antiplatelet treatment
  • Recent nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Taking aspirin in the 10 days before surgery
  • Sebaceous cyst in inflammatory phase
Smoking is also strongly discouraged during the month preceding skin surgery, as smoking hinders healing.
