WHEN TO RESORT TO BREAST PTOSIS TREATMENT

A breast ptosis treatment is considered when the breast falls too significantly, with sagging of the mammary gland and skin that is too loose and distended. The chest is then positioned too low compared to its normal position and its upper part is often "empty". Three types of ptosis are identified: so-called "pure" ptosis, that linked to breast hypertrophy (large breast volume) and that linked to a context of hypotrophy, when the breast is too small. The chest can also fall excessively after significant weight loss or after several pregnancies.
The common characteristic of the types of ptosis is the skin that relaxes too much in the upper part of the breast or the presence of excess skin in this same area. In the latter case, the surgeon can propose a so-called "isolated" treatment to raise the chest to its correct level, by treating the excess skin responsible.
When the patient has a particularly small breast and yet marked by ptosis, we resort to the insertion of a breast augmentation prosthesis in addition to the treatment of the ptosis itself.
Please note that health insurance does not cover this type of operation, considering that ptosis only creates an aesthetic problem.

How is breast ptosis correction performed?

HOW IS BREAST PTOSIS CORRECTION PERFORMED?

Like any cosmetic surgery operation, the project to correct breast ptosis is prepared learnedly with your surgeon. He will recommend the best solution based on your morphology and your desire. In all cases, a mammogram will be prescribed if another one less than three months old does not already exist.
The surgical operation consists of reshaping the chest by working on the skin envelope of the breast. Excess tissue is removed so that the mammary gland can remain in the right place, in a harmonious shape with the rest of the body. As we mentioned previously, the installation of a prosthesis is not mandatory depending on the different cases and the volume of the mammary gland.
Hospitalization for the treatment lasts 2 days. The operation is performed under general anesthesia and lasts from 2 to 2.5 hours depending on the treatment to be performed. For information: the patient is kept seated throughout the operation, to obtain better results.

POSTOPERATIVE FOLLOW-UP IN THE EVENT OF BREAST PTOSIS TREATMENT

The procedure is not painful in most cases. It results in temporary bruising and swelling of the breasts that disappear within a few weeks. The case is different in the case of breast implants, with greater pain due to the nature of the treatment. The sutures are made with self-absorbable threads buried in the flesh of the breasts. So no threads to remove on the scars.
A support bra should be worn for 1 month after the operation. It is prescribed and assessed by the surgeon before the actual operation. He will define the size and cup for maximum comfort and good support. No sports or heavy lifting during the entire period. No sun on the scars for 6 months.
Please note that since this is a cosmetic surgery procedure, no work stoppage can be defined by the surgeon. However, you must take a week of rest after the operation.
